We are a hospital for sinners, not a sanctuary for saints.

Galion First Presbyterian Chapel of Hope and Peace
Who are we? Let’s start by saying who we are not! We are not judgmental. We don’t care what you wear or how much money you have. We do not have a theology that beats you over the head into submission or shames you when you sin. We do not shut you down if your theological history is different, or if you are searching for your own sense of faith. The Bible teaches us compassion and the love of God and we want to share that with you.
So what are we? We are, instead, a chapel of opportunity to share your gifts, to participate, and to be embraced by others who share their various gifts as disciples of Christ’s teachings as led by the Holy Spirit. This church was started in 1861 and, while it has gone through changes, the basic message to you is, and has always been, the same. God loves you and so do we!
Ministry Model and Worship
We have a unique ministry model which includes Pastor Christine Vanderkooi Burns, CRE, MA and our church leaders so that voices and messages can vary. It is an exciting ministry. We participate in the community and support ministry in other places. Our musician is Nate Sherer and he brings a combination of the traditional and modern to his carefully chosen stylings on the keyboards. He even throws in some original compositions, and we have a small choir always looking for new voices.
We have added a lift to make our sanctuary accessible to those with mobility issues and we do not engage in “insider” worship. Our bulletins are designed to allow every person to actively participate in the worship service.

Pastor Christine Burns
Commissioned ruling elder serving both the Scioto Valley Presbytery and the Galion First Presbyterian Church.
Pastor Burns has a Masters degree from the MTSO in Delaware, OH in Parish and Community Ministry. She has a heart for the passion and intimacy that smaller congregations bring to the community and resides near Candlewood Lake with her lovely spouse and their pets.
Please join us Sunday at noon for worship. We are located at 125 East Payne Avenue in Galion, Ohio. Dress is casual, with “just as I am” as more than enough. We have coffee available and usually a snack. Bring yourself, bring a friend, get to know us. There is great love in this congregation and we are just waiting to share it with you!
